| Originally designed
to catch the attention of wholesalers and distributors, fruit crate labels
were affixed to both ends of boxes to distinguish one grower's product
from another's.
By the mid 1950's, the more labour-intensive
wooden fruit crates had been replaced by cardboard packaging, and this
great art form was lost.
